We are saving Lives... one Dog at a time in Ocean Springs, MS. Not only do we talk the talk... we are walking the walk! Here are some examples of real changes we've helped to make in these little canines' lives.
Max
March 2009
"Max" was a Jack Russell Terrier that was hit by a car and suffered multiple fractures to his front leg. The owners couldn't afford to repair the leg and wanted to euthanize him because of his injuries. He was relinquished to the veterinary clinic and immediately given to us. Too much time had passed at this point to repair the leg, so the decision was made to amputate. The day after surgery, Max was running around on just 3 legs without missing a beat. Not long after his sutures were removed, he was lucky enough to find a wonderful family that was specifically looking for a "special needs" dog.
One
March 2009
"One" was a small Blue Heeler mix stray that was rescued in the Wiggins area. He had been spotted with an injured back leg and was finally caught in a live trap and brought to us. When we first received him, he was terrified! He was lashing out, doing alligator death rolls on the leash and was trying to bite us. We found that he had a broken hip that had happened probably months before, and was in severe pain. We performed an orthopedic procedure (Femoral Head Ostectomy) as a salvage procedure on his injured hip to help him become pain free, and then the rehab began. It took our volunteers several weeks before they could touch him but he slowly gained their trust and over time learned how to be a dog and learned how to love and be loved. They gradually began introducing him to the other dogs and our proudest moment was watching him roll on his back wrestling with a new friend with a huge smile on his face. He still favors his leg because of muscle contracture, but he doesn't let it slow him down. He recently found his forever home with a very special family, is now called “Joey” and is enjoying the life of luxury.
Shiloh
March 2009
"Shiloh" was a Rat Terrier that was dumped at a local shelter with a litter of 7 puppies. She was timid and very thin, but took good care of her babies. Her babies were weaned and adopted into homes, and Shiloh was spayed and fattened up. She turned into a beautiful, very sweet dog. She was recently adopted by a wonderful man who saw her photo on our website, and after meeting her and taking her for a walk, came back and declared "Well....Shiloh has a new home!" We are so happy for both of them and hope they bring each other much joy!
Molly
March 2009
"Molly" was a beautiful Border Collie mix that was surrendered by her owners. She stayed with us for many, many months before she was finally taken into a foster home. After a while, Molly worked her way into her foster parents hearts, and they decided to give her a forever home. She is so much happier being in a home situation and now has lots of love.
Buster
Buster is a chihuahua mix found on the side of the road along Highway 57....He was underweight, fear aggressive, and suffered large amounts of hair loss and open sores as a result of Demodectic Mange.
Today, Buster has regained all of his hair and weight, and is very sociable amongst his new family. He has a hilarious personality and is a joy to watch as he goes about his days.
Itty
He will be one on September 3....Itty is one of two surviving puppies in a litter of five. He was bottle fed round the clock and was developmentally delayed. Itty was labeled as a fading puppy, but with a lot of attention, love, time and excellent veterinary care, today Itty leads a very normal, healthy life and brings much joy to his "mom".
In Memory of...
To an amazing little puppy sole who so powerfully touched every one he met and never gave up. You are with me always and will never be forgotten.
Moose was one of a litter of five I had back in February/March. He was the one I thought was going to be the "sole" survivor of his liter. I would like to thank to the Vets (with special thanks to Dr Stacy Randall and Dr. Cindy Culpepper) in addition to the vet techs and front desk staff for going far above and beyond in their care for this amazing little pup - Tammy
